Any wannabe guitar player or musician for that matter should be familiar with the basic guitar lessons especially
different parts of a guitar. The parts of the different types of guitars available for sale in the stores are fairly the same. When getting yourself acquainted with the various parts of the guitar, it would be best to grab an actual guitar to help you appreciate it better.
Located at the topmost part of the guitar is the head, which is sometimes referred to as the headstock. It serves to hold the 6 keys and strings on that part of the instrument. The keys, also referred to as the tuners, are used to adjust the pitch of each of the strings. The tautness of the strings can be adjusted by rotating the keys clockwise or counterclockwise to be able to alter the tune of the guitar.
Just below the head is what you call the nut which is the white colored plastic bar. It is there to help in the appropriate alignment of the strings so that they stay in their respective places. The neck is actually the longest part of the guitar which accommodates the strings, frets and also the nut.
The frets, typically in colors gold or black, are the strips across the length of the neck. They guide the guitarist in shifting to higher or lower octaves. There are six strings and each of which has a different thickness from the other 5.
The body is the most prominent component the guitar. It is where the bridge and the sound hole can be found. Located at the lower part of the body is the bridge which is where the strings are first inserted before being aligned to the nut and then to the six tuners. The sound hole is there to allow the sounds coming from the strumming or plucking to bounce off to create beautiful music.
It is easy to care for your guitar. All it needs is a caring hand and a microfiber cloth to remove dust and traces of fingerprints on practically any part. However, special attention must be given to the crevices where dust usually builds up. It's when you change the strings that it is best to clean in between the frets. As for the storage, just like with wine, keep it in a cool and dry place protected from the sun, preferably in a guitar case.
