Lesson one - how to handle the guitar
You will probably feel more comfortable sitting with the guitar on the leg. Your dominant hand will be used to pull or scrape the strings. Your left hand will be the position on the fretboard with the guitar resting on your left leg. Get the feel of the position, but try and make sure the guitar is tight and straight. If the guitar slides from your legs don't be afraid as this is normal that you will probably be checking on your finger positions. Lesson Two - The Chords
Here we focus on the first four frets of the guitar. Frets are the spaces between each metal line up vertically in the neck of the guitar. The guitar has six strings horizontally. Your fingers are numbered 1,2 and 3. 1 being the index finger.
Lesson Three - the three basic chords
The A chord is the easiest to learn. The three fingers go on the second fret. The first string is the thinnest string at the bottom. Your three fingers are placed as follows: finger 1 in the 4th string, finger 2 on the third string, the finger 3rd in the 2nd string. Now strum with your right hand.
The E chord is another relatively easy chord to play. Finger 1 goes on the first fret and 3rd string, fingers 2 and 3 and then on the second fret with finger 2 on the 5th string and finger 3 in the 4th string.
Finally, the D chord - sometimes a little difficult for beginners. Fingers 1 and 2 go to the second fret. Finger 2 on the 1st string and finger one on the third string. Fingers 3 should be on the 3rd fret on string number two.
Lesson Four - Easy Guitar Lessons - Strumming and modification of chords
These first three chords will enable you to play tunes such as Hey Jude by the Beatles and others. An important skill is to strum. It is done by moving your dominant hand (usually right hand) up and forming chords with the left hand. Just keep a steady pace, no precipitation, and of course, practice, practice, practice. You should hear a nice clean sounds of the guitar. If there are some fuzzy notes you may not quite have the left and fingers in the correct position or they may be touching other strings.
Learn the basic chords first and then you can set a beat, then start to move to a second before entering into different chords on the next beat. You can practice changing chords and scrape more effectively by playing your favorite song with a slow pace.
